The Alpine Loop, after which the event is named, is a true challenge with over 10,000 feet of climbing, inspired by the rugged mountain roads bordering Virginia and West Virginia. Featuring 25% gravel roads and timed sections, the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo has become a mid-Atlantic classic and boasts its own unique style.

Most riders opt for 30-35c gravel and wide clearance road bikes with compact gearing to conquer the Alpine Loop’s demanding terrain.

Alpine Loop Route:
Starting in Harrisonburg, Virginia, the Alpine Loop covers approximately 110 miles, presenting riders with around 10,000 feet of elevation gain. Four timed King and Queen of the Mountains segments, as well as a new Sprint segment introduced in 2021, provide thrilling challenges. The route primarily showcases unpaved, dirt, and gravel roads, mainly concentrated on the mountain climbs.

Shenandoah Mountain Century:
For those seeking a fully-paved challenge, the Shenandoah Mountain Century is the perfect choice. Surpassing 100 miles, this ride takes on two significant climbs over Shenandoah Mountain. The King and Queen of the Mountains contest features three segments, and a new Sprint segment was added in 2021.

If you prefer an all-paved route with a great challenge, the Shenandoah Mountain Adventure is ideal. Riders compete in the King and Queen of the Mountains contest, including three timed segments and a new Sprint segment introduced in 2021.

Mt Solon Metric Century:
Unveiled in 2015, the Mt Solon Metric Century became an instant classic. Covering 62.5 miles of scenic Shenandoah Valley riding, including beautiful backroads and hidden riverside roads beyond Mt Solon, this route presents a total of 3,743 feet of climbing spread out over rolling Valley roads. The route includes the King and Queen of the Hill timed climbing segment on Mole Hill, with a new Sprint segment added in 2021.

Valley View Challenge:
The Valley View Challenge is a proven winner of a route, offering impressive challenges over the distance, including a climb on Mole Hill. Introduced in 2021, the Prostate Cancer Awareness Project added a Sprint Segment to the route.
