Baltic Chain Tour 2023

The Baltic Chain Tour is a Men’s Europe Tour road cycling race. This three day race will be held in Estonia from August 18th to the 20th. The race will start in Tartu and finish in Panevezy.

About

The Baltic Chain Tour is an annual road cycling race that takes place in the Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The race has a significant history that dates back to its inception in 1955.

The event was initially conceived as a means to promote cycling and foster camaraderie among the Baltic countries during a time when they were under Soviet rule. The name “Baltic Chain” pays homage to the historic Baltic Way, a peaceful demonstration that took place in 1989, during which around two million people joined hands to form a human chain spanning the three countries in a call for independence.

Since its establishment, the Baltic Chain Tour has grown in stature and popularity, attracting top cyclists from both the Baltic countries and around the world. The race typically consists of several stages, each traversing diverse terrains and showcasing the natural beauty and cultural richness of the region.

The Baltic Chain Tour has become an important fixture on the UCI Europe Tour, contributing to the development and promotion of cycling in the Baltic region. Beyond the sport, the event also fosters cross-cultural exchanges and strengthens the bond among the Baltic nations.

As a symbol of unity, freedom, and shared aspirations, the Baltic Chain Tour continues to hold special significance, serving as a reminder of the region’s historic struggles and its dedication to promoting cycling and international friendship.
