Instead of classic towering mountains, envision an unending succession of ascents and descents that weave through enchanting unroads, serene woodland single-tracks, and lakeside paths. The course delves into the mud-laden trails and presents two astonishing cyclocross circuits meticulously etched into the verdant expanse of Snake Farm – De Kleine Slang and The Slengenwinkel Doolhof. These courses are tucked away in a mystical backcountry oasis just a stone’s throw from downtown Lawrence.

Fresh for 2023, the course presents a new configuration while retaining the essence of the rolling hills that challenged riders in the 2021/22 editions. Brace yourself for a landscape devoid of straight stretches, offering instead an abundance of opportunities for both agony and ecstasy. Paved roads will be a rarity, and the course’s character guarantees a solitary battle against the elements, for there shall be no shelter from the relentless winds in a pack. In this endeavor, you stand alone.

What sets the BWR apart is its distinctive blend of challenges and, atop that list, the robust SUPPORT system. The race is under the vigilant watch of police escorts and follow vehicles, while the Waffle boasts an impressive six strategically placed Feed Zones across its 123.2-mile (or 76.4-mile wafer) journey.

Even more noteworthy, the BWR is accompanied by a convoy of media vans, the invaluable Sunflower on-course support, BWR support vehicles, and a trailside crew of roaming mechanics ready to assist riders on the arduous stretches that unveil themselves shortly after departing downtown Lawrence.
