Cherahala Challenge

The Smoky Mountain Wheelmen are excited to announce the 22nd Edition of the Cherohala Challenge, set to take place on June 1, 2024. This event features three distinct routes tailored to different skill levels, offering rides of 35, 62, and 115 miles, ensuring options for every cyclist.
Participants can kick off their summer on Saturday, June 1, with either a scenic 35-mile loop through picturesque valleys and gentle hills, a challenging 63-mile Metric Century that includes a thrilling ascent to the Skyway’s peak, or the grueling 115-mile Cherohala Challenge Century. This most demanding route spans two states, featuring significant climbs including the infamous 318 curves of the Tail of the Dragon and a rewarding descent through the Joyce Kilmer Forest.
Cyclists who conquer the Century route in under 7 hours will receive the coveted DRAGON SLAYER medal. The event offers comprehensive support including SAG vehicles, mechanical assistance, and well-stocked rest stops, ensuring a well-supported ride.
The event also features perks like a free post-ride meal, custom T-shirts for preregistered riders, and a special cycling kit available for purchase. Key logistical details include packet pickups on May 30 and 31, with ride start times scheduled early on June 1 to accommodate all distances.
This premier Southeast cycling event promises breathtaking views, challenging climbs, and a supportive cycling community, making it a must-attend for enthusiasts looking to test their mettle or simply enjoy a beautiful ride.
