Maine Woods Rambler 2023

Sep 24, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Maine Woods Rambler

Welcome to the thrilling Maine Woods Rambler, now in its third year, an extraordinary adventure ride brought to you through a fantastic partnership between the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, The New England Outdoors Center (NEOC), and Katahdin Area Trails (KAT). By participating in this event, you not only experience an unforgettable cycling journey but also contribute to a great cause, as proceeds benefit Katahdin Area Trails.

Mark your calendars for September 23 and 24, 2023, for a weekend filled with excitement! On the first day, we’ll have the Ride Check-In & Welcome Party at Knife Edge Brewing and NEOC in Millinocket, setting the stage for the ultimate adventure the following day – The Maine Woods Rambler.

Prepare to be challenged and rewarded as you venture into the 50k and 100k routes, where demanding climbs and thrilling descents will put your skills to the test. Sweeping vistas of lakes, rivers, and Baxter peaks will greet you along the way, and who knows, you might even be lucky enough to spot a majestic moose!

The routes are a delightful blend of smooth gravel, rough gravel, and scarcely-touched terrain, which may require a hike-a-bike here and there. Don’t worry, approximately 20% of both routes include the finest paved roads in the region, providing a smooth experience at times. You’ll also get to enjoy brief stints on some of the best flow trail singletracks this side of the Mississippi.

The 100k route offers an extra splash of adventure with a water crossing on Pemadumcook Lake, where riders will be ferried across. Furthermore, you’ll have the opportunity to explore local businesses as you cruise through downtown Millinocket.

For seasoned riders seeking a challenge, the 50k and 100k routes are a perfect match, while we’ve added a 20k route for those looking to gain experience and confidence in mixed-surface adventure riding. This route offers a mix of single track, gravel, and paved roads, welcoming both mountain bikes and gravel bikes alike.

The excitement kicks off on Saturday night with the NEOC activity center hosting the rider check-in and a vibrant welcome party. On Sunday morning, it’s time to hit the trail early for an epic adventure, followed by a well-deserved post-ride celebration featuring mouthwatering pizza and refreshing beer from Knife Edge Brewing.

But wait, there’s more! Elevate your weekend with Packraft Maine’s Intro to Bikerafting Trip on Thursday, Sept 21. Join experienced guide Alejandro Strong on a unique adventure where you’ll paddle with your bike in tow! Learn the basics of loading and paddling with a bike on your raft, ready for swimming, hike-a-bike, and whatever else comes your way.

Be sure to check out the FAQ for more details and information.

And that’s not all! Katahdin Area Trails, in collaboration with the community of Millinocket’s Trails End Festival, will host an array of events for people of all ages throughout the weekend.
