The 29er Gnar XC Carbon wheelset is designed for XC disciplines. It has a modern rim shape featuring an asymmetrical profile with a 30mm internal width. Paired with Elitewheels’s upgraded 50T Ratchet, the Gnar XC excels on even the most technical terrain, offering instant power transfer.

Brake Interface: The wheels come standard in a 6-bolt configuration.

RIM

The Gnar XC rim features an asymmetric design that enhances stress balance and improves lateral stiffness. Designed for modern tubeless setups, the hookless rim allows for effortless installation—requiring only a standard floor pump. The carbon layup is crafted from genuine Toray T700 and T800 fibers, delivering an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and outstanding impact resistance. Thanks to internal inflatable bladder molding, each rim boasts a smooth, wrinkle-free interior surface and consistent structure. With these innovations, the Gnar XC achieves a total wheelset weight of just 1320g ±30g, offering significant weight savings without compromising on durability or stiffness.

HUB

At the core of the Gnar XC is the Elitewheels In-House hub, precision-machined from high-grade 7075 aluminum alloy. CNC-finished in-house, these hubs offer exceptional strength, tight tolerances, and long-term reliability. The newly upgraded 50T star ratchet system delivers faster engagement, improved power transfer, and enhanced durability while keeping the hub weight at a lightweight 346g (HG). Maintenance is simplified through a tool-free, minimalist design. High-performance TPI steel bearings ensure smooth rolling performance in the toughest conditions.

SPOKES

Sapim CX-Ray spokes come standard. We take precautions to ensure that spoke windup is minimized so wheels don’t go out of true. After the initial truing, the wheel is sideloaded. This process is repeated. Each wheel undergoes an intensive quality control process, including 16 cycles of stress relief, ensuring a maximum deviation of just 0.2mm from true. Combined with Sapim Secure Lock nipples, the result is a reliable and precisely built wheelset that stays true ride after ride.

Are these wheels suitable for eMTB riding?+

*This version of the 29er Gnar XC has not been designed for eMTB riding. If you are looking for an eMTB compatible wheelset, please visit our 29er Gnar Trail PR product page. Through greater forces being applied to the drivetrain by the motor, eMTBs increase the stress placed on the components of a wheel. Any damage to the wheelset caused by eMTB riding is not covered under warranty.

Which brands’ freehubs are compatible with Gnar XC hub?+

The Ratchet freehubs used in our MTB wheels are manufactured in Elitewheels’ factory.

Are other hubs available?+

No, the Gnar XC only 50T ratchet hubs

Are there both thru-axle and quick release skewer options?+

Yes. Our Pro hubs use 6-bolt by default. Quick release, standard, and boost thru-axles are all available.

Can hubs be changed to center lock?+

No, the standard and quick release hubs are only available in 6-bolt, and it can’t be changed into center lock.

What does the rider weight limit include?+

The rider weight limit includes the total weight of the rider, bike, gear, and any other accessories. Please do not exceed this weight.

What tire pressures should I run?+

The best tire pressure for you depends on many factors: the rim width, type of bike and tires, rider weight, road conditions and weather conditions. Please see our user guide for more information.

How strong are your carbon rims? What happens if I break one?+

Gnar 29erXC, receive the wheels on time as stated. Installed them on my 2025 Yeti ASR. Now have about 10 rides on the wheel set they have been flawless. The weight came in as stated. Very happy with them so far I have seven carbon wheel sets from other manufacturers. These are the lightest so far that I have and they’ve been holding up great on the East Coast in USA a lot of rocks and roots. They answered all my questions before I purchased, and I will definitely buy again thank you!!

This is an awesome wheelset. Put them on my Scott Spark RC Team. I have run several sets of carbon wheels and these perform very well. Light, responsive and not overly harsh. The hubs are really nice too. I had them on washboard downhill sections today and they felt very stable and fast. You will climb noticeably faster with these compared to stock wheels as well. Very happy with Elite Wheels customer service. Sunny was letting me know the status of order and they arrived in about 3 weeks to US. Highly recommend.

Received my Gnar 29er Xc wheelset today, These wheels look awesome and weighed under advertised weight, 692 grams for the rear and 616 g for the front! This is my 3rd set of wheels with the first 2 sets being Pro 29 33, I’ve gotten thousands of kms in the mountains on extremely rough trails, absolutely stayed true and been maintenance free. Purchased these a few days after they released. It took about 60days for them to arrive. That being said, the weight is accurate and so far they have held up to some fairly spirited riding. These may be the best value wheels on the market.
Only complaint is the hubs are VERY LOUD, so adding some thicker grease to the ratchet pawl helps a lot there.
