WIDER RIMS

The Drive G36 features a wider 25mm internal rim width, that allows you to run wider, 700 x 28-65C tires, giving you more traction and confidence when riding. This flexibility allows for both road riding and trail riding. Advancements in carbon fiber layup have made it possible to reduce weight while further improving impact resistance.

The rims use an ETRTO-compliant reduced hook design that gives the benefits of a hookless rim, without sacrificing safety at higher tire pressures. The reduced hook design increases durability, creates a better tire contact patch for improved grip and stability, reduces weight, and improves aerodynamics due to an enhanced tire-to-rim interface.

RATCHET HUBS

The Drive G36’s features our new Kinetic hub, which contains two high engagement 50T(7.2°) star ratchets machined into a conical shape, which allows for a increase in surface area. This leads to increased longevity and durability, as torque can be distributed over a larger area. The Kinetic hub also makes use of a stronger spring, which reduces skipping and slipping under load.

The front and rear hubs both make use of hybrid Steel TPI bearings, which offer performance gains in rolling resistance, saving you precious watts. We machine our own high-precision hubs in-house with Fanuc CNC machines to tolerances of just 0.02mm, improving longevity. The hubs also feature waterproof seals to eliminate ingress, preventing bearing contamination.

RACE-READY SPOKES

Sapim CX-Ray, spokes are known for being lightweight and durable, making them the favorite of pro riders. We take precautions to ensure that spoke windup is minimized so wheels don’t go out of true. After the initial truing, the wheel is sideloaded. This process is repeated again. The wheels are sideloaded a total of 16 times. We see this as an essential quality control standard. As a result, our wheels are guaranteed to stay within 0.2mm of true.

DURABILITY

At Elitewheels, we do all of our own testing. During the development phase, each wheelset undergoes more than 20 tests. The Drive G36 has flawlessly passed our 20,000km rough surface factory/laboratory tests which simulate gravel riding conditions, far exceeding the en 17406 test standard.

In our maximum vertical impact test, the G36 passed, making it 2.7x stronger than UCI’s standard, giving you peace of mind when riding in rough terrain.

What are the differences between the Drive G36 wheelset and the Drive G45 SS wheelset?+

Please click the link here to learn more about the differences between the Drive G36 wheelset and the Drive G45 SS wheelset.

Does the Drive G36 Gravel wheelset come with spare spokes?+

No, only wheelsets with carbon spokes come with spare spokes. The Drive G36 gravel wheelset uses Sapim CX-Ray steel spokes. If you need extra spokes, please purchase them via this link.

When should I choose the Shimano MSR freehub option?+

The MSR freehub option on the Drive G36 is compatible with Shimano Micro Spline MTB/Gravel cassettes. For example, if you are using the new Shimano RX820 1×12 groupset with the CS-M8100-12 cassette, please choose the Shimano MSR freehub option.

Which frames can I use with the Drive G36 wheelset?+

The Drive G36 is a gravel wheelset which is typically used with wider, gravel specific tires. Different frames have different tire clearances. You can check with the frame brand as to what size tires can be used on their particular frame. The G36 can also be fitted with road tires, but we recommend the tire width to be at least 30c. Since our gravel wheels only come in disc brake versions, only disc brake road bikes can be fitted with them. The tire clearance on a road frame is also important when what size tire to use.

Which brands’ freehubs are compatible with Marvel wheelsets?+

Since the hubs used in Marvel wheels are manufactured in Elitewheels’ factory, freehubs from other brands are incompatible. The hubs used in Marvel wheels have passed our 20,000km test. As long as you ride in normal conditions, the possibility of the freehub getting damaged is very low. If you ride in extreme conditions, we recommend you clean the freehub every 3000km.

Why don't our disc brake wheelsets come with thru-axles?+

Unlike quick releases, there are many thru-axle standards. What you need depends on your frame's make and model. There are many thread types, such as M12x1.0mm, M12x1.5mm, M12x1.75mm, etc... For example, M12 means the outer thread diameter is 12mm, and 1.0mm means the thread pitch is 1.0mm. Because of the variety of standards, we do not provide thru-axles. If you need a new thru-axle(s), please contact your frame brand for more information.

Is there an internal nipple option?+

No. Currently, the Drive G36 does not have an internal nipple option.

Can I change to 6-bolt?+

Yes. The Drive G36 wheels use center lock hubs by default, but if you want to use 6-bolt, please click the link and add the Centerlock to 6-bolt adapters to your cart with the wheelset.

Are ceramic bearings easily broken?+

As all our our hubs have high-precision manufacturing tolerances, bearing play is significantly reduced. Because of this, the likelihood of bearings being damaged is extremely low.

What does the rider weight limit include?+

The rider weight limit includes the total weight of the rider, bike, gear, and any other accessories. Please do not exceed this weight.

What tire pressures should I run?+

The best tire pressure for you depends on many factors: the rim width, type of bike and tires, rider weight, road conditions and weather conditions. Please see our user guide for more information.

How strong are your carbon rims? What happens if I break one?+

Every one of our carbon rims has been strictly tested before shipment.  We are so confident in the quality of our rims that we offer a 3-year warranty on every one. To learn more, please refer to our warranty page.
