DRIVE RIMS

At Elitewheels, we design our Drive wheels to match the needs of professional riders. In order to deliver the best performance, we incorporate our own UNI carbon fiber, a specific ratio of T800 and T1000 carbon fiber (*Read more about UNI technology), making rims not only strong, but also exceptionally light and stiff. The U/V-shaped rim profile of the Drive 65D was chosen to make the rim both aero as well as stable in windy conditions. The Drive 65D’s 21mm inner rim allows for wider tires to be run, allowing for more comfort and grip.

PERFORMANCE HUB

To get the most out of carbon fiber spokes, we specifically designed the hub with high flanges to further increase lateral stiffness and improve handling. Elitewheels manufactures its own high precision hubs with Fanuc CNC machines, which can machine to tolerances of just 0.02mm. This not only allows for lower rolling resistance but also increases bearing longevity.

Drive 40mm disc brake wheelset Carbon Spokes

CARBON SPOKES

What separates the Drive 65D from most other wheels is its use of high-modulus carbon spokes. They are 3.2mm wide aero bladed spokes, offering 7% more lateral stiffness as compared to equivalent steel spokes. The carbon spokes are mechanically secured, giving the benefit of being able to be trued and maintained just like regular steel spokes. Anti-loosening technology is also incorporated into the spoke nipples. The threads built into the nipples give them a double-locking effect.

CERAMIC BEARINGS

The 65D’s front hub uses two 6803 mixed ceramic bearings. The rear hub uses one 6903 and three 6803 mixed ceramic bearings. These large bearings offer better rigidity. The use of mixed ceramic bearings will allow you to have a more efficient bike, saving you precious watts.

Which brands’ freehubs are compatible with Drive wheelsets?+

Since the hubs used in Drive wheels are manufactured in Elitewheels’ factory, freehubs from other brands are incompatible. The hubs used in Drive wheels have passed our 20,000km test. As long as you ride in normal conditions, the possibility of the freehub getting damaged is very low. If you ride in extreme conditions, we recommend you clean the freehub every 3000km.

Which cassettes require the 1.85mm spacer?+

1.85mm spacers are required for Shimano 9/10-speed cassettes fitted on Shimano HG freehubs. Spacers are also required when pairing most SRAM XD MTB cassettes with SRAM XDR freehubs.

Can I use disc brake wheels on my QR (quick release) compatible frame?+

Yes. Please click the link and add the Thru-axles to QR Adapters to your cart with the wheelset.

Why don't our disc brake wheelsets come with thru-axles?+

Unlike quick releases, there are many thru-axle standards. What you need depends on your frame's make and model. There are many thread types, such as M12x1.0mm, M12x1.5mm, M12x1.75mm, etc... For example, M12 means the outer thread diameter is 12mm, and 1.0mm means the thread pitch is 1.0mm. Because of the variety of standards, we do not provide thru-axles. If you need a new thru-axle(s), please contact your frame brand for more information.

Is there an internal nipple option?+

Internal nipples are not available because the nipples for carbon spokes are specially processed. The contact angle between spokes and spoke holes is extremely important. Spokes should not directly come into contact the rim directly, otherwise there would be a high likelihood of having spoke break.

Can I change to 6-bolt?+

Yes. Drive wheels use center lock hubs by default, but if you want to use 6-bolt, please click the link and add the Center-lock to 6-bolt Adapters to your cart with the wheelset.

Are ceramic bearings easily broken?+

As all our our hubs have high-precision manufacturing tolerances, bearing play is significantly reduced. Because of this, the likelihood of bearings being damaged is extremely low.

What does the rider weight limit include?+

The rider weight limit includes the total weight of the rider, bike, gear, and any other accessories. Please do not exceed this weight.

What tire pressures should I run?+

The best tire pressure for you depends on many factors: the rim width, type of bike and tires, rider weight, road conditions and weather conditions. Please see our user guide for more information.

How strong are your carbon rims? What happens if I break one?+

Every one of our carbon rims has been strictly tested before shipment. We are so confident in the quality of our rims that we offer a 3-year warranty on every one. We also offer a crash replacement policy. To learn more, please refer to our warranty page.

Where can I find information on ordering and shipping?+

Essential Safety Information+

For essential safety information, please read our Consumer Advice.

What happens if a carbon spoke breaks?+

Our threaded carbon spokes have been designed to last. In the event that a carbon spoke breaks, replacement is easy. Each wheel comes with replacement spokes that can be replaced like traditional steel spokes. For more information, please see this article. For information on where to get spokes replaced, please contact our customer service.

Are carbon spokes covered under warranty?+

Our standard 3-year warranty covers carbon spokes if they are damaged by non-external factors. This means they are only covered if there is a manufacturing defect. Click here for more information on our warranty.

      Hi Thomas,

Thanks a ton for your fantastic 5-star feedback! We’re absolutely stoked to hear you love how stiff, responsive, lightweight, and aero our wheels are—checking all those boxes is exactly what we aim for.

It means a lot that you also rate our customer service highly and think the wheels are great value for the price. Thanks for choosing Elitewheels, and here’s to many awesome rides ahead!

‘ve owned two pairs of the EliteWheels Drive 65D wheelsets. I was extremely impressed with the build quality and performance, being able to compare them to DT Swiss, Cadex, Syncros and Hollowgram wheelsets. I would happily advise anyone looking for a performance wheelset to look into these.
The experience is topped off by great customer service from the EliteWheels team.

      Hello Heynrich.

Thank you for sharing your experience with your Drive 65D wheelsets. It is great to know that you are satisfied with the build quality and performance, and even that they are comparable to the big brands. We are happy to know that you have had a good experience with our customer service as well.

      Happy riding!

  4. Chris Davis (verified owner)

I bought the Drive 65D’s (disk) this year to replace my Zipp 454NSW wheel set. They were well packed and remarkably trued. The Drive wheels are lighter, stiffer and noticeable faster than the Zipp wheel set. I’m maintaining average speeds of 5-8 kph faster than the Zipps. They look absolutely beautiful on my Canyon Aeroad CFR and I get compliments on them all the time. The one thing as compared with the Zipps is the Drive wheels are more susceptible to side winds – not dramatic by any means but I do notice it more. All in all I highly recommend the Drive wheels for their incredible value. The perfect choice of wheels if you want to go fast!

Hello Chris. Thank you for sharing your experience with the Drive 65D wheelset. It is great to hear that you are satisfied with the packaging, as well as the performance and appearance of the wheels. We are glad that they have been a worthwhile upgrade. As for the crosswind stability, the UV profile of the rims should help, but in general, rim depth plays the biggest role. The 65Ds are on average about 10mm deeper. We have found, however, that many people can adapt to managing a slightly deeper wheelset. Your feedback is much appreciated. Thank you for recommending our wheels.

      Happy riding!

  5. Familybykerk

I recently bought a pair of the 65D wheels with the special request that they come without any decals (I like the clean look). I contacted elitewheels about this and they were able to do this really easily – there was just an extra waiting time of a couple of weeks. Once I received them, the wheels were well packed and there was no damage. I set the wheels up as tubeless and as a first timer doing this, the process was super easy and I got them set up first time without issues. There was one minor issue when fitting the 12 speed cassette – for some reason the first attempt cog number 11 did not want to go on to the freehub. After taking everything on and off again, I was able to get it on. Not sure why this was the case… These wheels completed my new ICAN A9 build and it is a great looking package. The wheels ride really nicely and have no complaints about the product. Unfortunately I received the notice that the wheels had shipped after they already arrived. Not sure if others also experienced this or not. But 5 stars for the wheels

Thank you for taking the time to review the 65D wheelset. They look great on your ICAN. It is nice that you found the tubeless setup straightforward. We apologize for the delay in notifying you of the shipping status.

  6. Andre Kristianto Boenadji

i love the wheels, the 65D is of course heavier than the 50d and you need more effort to start them to turn. but once its turning especially when you go downhill or even when its flat, the wheels just keep turning as if they are keeping the momentum. which is so good on flats and for fast riding. i still really want to try the more shallow wheels since im a lightweight rider nad better on climb than on the flats. but still collecting and earning my money as a student, hopefully elite wheels will have a big sale soon!

Hello Andre. Your Seka bike build looks nice. Thank you for sharing your experience with the wheels. The 40D is definitely the best wheel we offer for climbing. As for possibly getting a second wheelset, we will certainly have more sales in the future. Information on them will be available on our Instagram.

The Drive 65D I bought two weeks ago and arrived so quickly. I checked the wheelsets and the quality looks perfect. I’m satisfied with them. The glossy marbling black rim finish has a good texture. and I am also satisfied with the weight. Since I just got the wheels installed, I haven’t had time to test riding yet, and I can’t wait to use it and try its performance in my next race.
I would recommend this wheel without hesitation!
