The 29er Gnar Trail SR carbon wheelset is designed for trail, AM, XC disciplines. It has a modern rim shape featuring an asymmetrical profile with a 30mm internal width. This version is paired with Elitewheels’ tried and tested Pro star ratchet hubs. The 29er Gnar Trail can stand even the toughest riding conditions.

RIM
Elitewheels has left no stone unturned when designing the 29er Gnar Trail’s rim. The asymmetric rim profile of the 29er Gnar Trail leads to better stress balance, greater lateral stiffness, and strength at the spoke holes.
38 layers of carbon fiber are placed at each spoke hole to offer reinforcement. This further improves the strength and stiffness of the rim. The rim bead has been made 17% thicker to improve impact resistance.
In addition, during the rim production process, internal inflatable bladders from a special material are used to produce smoother walls, eliminating wrinkles and voids, allowing for an even stronger and more reliable rim that can be made lighter, as over-engineering is not necessary. We use genuine Toray T700 and T800 carbon fiber, which is superior to generic varieties in terms of weight and impact resistance.
The rims are designed to make fitting tubeless hookless wheels simple, requiring just a floor pump.
PERFORMANCE HUB
The Elitewheels Pro hubs are made of 7075 aluminum alloy and feature TPI bearings.
Both the front and rear hubs are forged and then machined using our own Fanuc CNC equipment. The rear hub features a star ratchet with 36 teeth simultaneously engaging, allowing for a high surface area to distribute power, extending the life of the freehub.
Hub servicing has been made easy due to the Pro hub’s minimalistic design and no need for special tools.
DT Swiss hubs are also available.
SPOKES
Sapim CX-Ray spokes come standard. We take precautions to ensure that spoke windup is minimized, so wheels don’t go out of true. After the initial truing, the wheel is stress relieved. This process is repeated again. The wheels are stress relieved a total of 16 times. We see this as an essential quality control standard. As a result, our wheels are guaranteed to stay within 0.2mm of true.
The 3.5mm spoke offset minimizes the right and left spoke tension difference. This makes for a stronger and more laterally stiff wheel, giving you more control.

The “29er Gnar Trail SR” wheelset I ordered was delivered to me in Germany within 16 days and arrived carefully packaged and in perfect condition.
The build quality and the overall look and finish make an excellent impression, and they are by far the nicest wheels I’ve seen so far. I particularly like the shiny appearance.
I am also impressed by the fact that the weight specifications given on the product page match those of the product I received. Something like that is unfortunately very rare these days.
I’m looking forward to fitting the wheels to my SB140 and putting them through their paces.

First Impressions:
The workmanship of the Elitewheels Gnar Trail SR looks excellent. I thought the offset spokes and raised nipples might look weird, but the rims look awesome. The machining on the hubs looks and feels very tight and smooth. I got the aluminum HG freehub body and they wrapped a steel cap on one of the ridges. Presumably to prevent gouging. Genius! I hope this feature works. I hate gouging. The 36T ratchet system is like the DT Swiss system and it works just fine. They make a low, unintrusive buzz sound.
The primary reason I got these wheels was to reduce the weight of my Gen 5, Trek Fuel EX 9.8. The Bontrager Line Carbons are tough as nails but heavy and stiff as a board. I think Trek specs the same wheels on the Slash. Good wheels but complete overkill for the Fuel. What really surprised me are the unexpected benefits. Yes, they are lighter, but what really stood out was how much more compliant they are compared to the Bontragers. My main complete about the bike was how harsh it felt. I thought it might be the suspension but apparently the wheels have a lot to do with it. Now the bike is smooth as silk. The second surprise was how much more dynamic the bike feels because of the reduced weight. It is much easier and quicker to initiate a lean to turn the bike, the bike just feels more fleet footed then before.
Only two rides on these wheels so far. But I am nothing but impressed by them. I can’t speak to the durability, but the workmanship looks comparable, if not better, to any established brand so I don’t have any concerns. I highly recommend them. I got them for the weight saving but I love them for the ride quality.

So far so very good.
They didn’t take too long to arrive (around 3 weeks since the order). I already put them through 300km of tough terrain, rocks and dings and they are holding up very well.

Beautiful wheels, but I have not ridden on them yet.
VERY prompt shipping.
Excellent communication.
Mounted a Vittoria Mezcal tire on the rear rim, without the need for tire levers.
EXCELLENT rim tape job.
Made sure the valve was snug, inflated the tire.
At 30-40 psi, the bead seated WITH A HAND PUMP! No compressor needed!
I almost forgot to mention…..I have NOT added any tire sealant yet, and it appears to have been holding air since yesterday!
I think I’ll add sealant before I ride, but it makes me smile to see it holds air before I added sealant :)
