Marvel 50V II Rim Brake

The Marvel 50V II is built for riders seeking an all-round wheelset optimized for flat and fast terrain. Though entry-level, it delivers impressive speed, stability, and efficiency. Featuring Alpina Ultralite Aero spokes, ceramic bearing hubs, and an aerodynamic profile for 23-30C tires, it weighs just 1485g.
Compared with the first generation, the Marvel 50V II keeps its stiffness while reducing weight through an optimized carbon layup. It also features a new 3K 45° twill brake surface and upgraded Alpina Ultralite Aero spokes, cutting spoke weight from 6.5g to 4.2g for greater responsiveness and aerodynamic gains.

*To ensure that the wheels are compatible with your bike and to prevent any rubbing, the brake pads should be at least 2mm away from the rim’s braking surface on both sides. We recommend checking with your frame and brake caliper manufacturers for the maximum tire clearance before placing your order.

*Availability Status: Usually shipped in 7-10 days.

RIMS

The Marvel II rims from Elitewheels are purpose-built for recreational riders, crafted to meet their distinct requirements. When compared with conventional alloy road rims, Marvel II rims stand out by offering greater strength, higher rigidity, improved aerodynamics, and noticeable weight savings. Because rims are the single most influential component for aerodynamic performance, reducing rim weight decreases rotational mass, resulting in quicker acceleration and a more responsive ride.

The Marvel 50V II features a U/V rim profile designed to strike the perfect balance between aerodynamic efficiency and stability in crosswinds.

SPOKES

Selecting the right spokes is critical in building a high-performance wheelset. After extensive evaluation, we chose Alpina Ultralite Aero spokes. Compared to the Pillar PA 1423 spokes used in earlier versions, each Alpina Ultralite Areo spoke is significantly lighter, dropping from 6.5g to just 4.2g—a reduction of about 2.3g per spoke. Cold forging further increases their tensile strength, enabling them to endure tensions of more than 300kgf while maintaining excellent durability.

PERFORMANCE HUB

To unlock the full performance potential of our carbon wheels, the Marvel II series hubs are designed with high flanges, which contribute to increased lateral stiffness and sharper handling. Each hub incorporates 4 pawls, 36 teeth, and a 10° engagement angle. The system carefully balances engagement speed with load distribution, ensuring smooth and efficient power transfer. Thanks to the combination of a small engagement angle and the rigidity of carbon rims, riders experience highly responsive acceleration.

Elitewheels manufactures its hubs in-house using precision Fanuc CNC machines capable of achieving tolerances as fine as 0.02mm. This ultra-precise machining reduces rolling resistance and extends the service life of the bearings, ensuring both efficiency and longevity.

CERAMIC BEARINGS

The Marvel 50V II is equipped with oversized hybrid ceramic bearings for improved efficiency and durability. The front hub houses two 6803 bearings, while the rear hub includes one 6903 and three 6803 bearings. Larger bearings offer greater load capacity compared to standard sizes, minimizing energy loss and helping riders save valuable watts over long rides.

BRAKE SURFACE

The braking surface of the Marvel 50V II combines Elitewheels’ proprietary 270℃ high-temperature resin with Japanese Toray T800 and T700 carbon fibers. This composite material ensures reliable braking performance even during long, demanding descents.

Additionally, the Marvel 50V II incorporates an advanced 3K 45° twill weave carbon surface. Unlike a traditional unidirectional (UD) layup, this cross-woven design provides balanced resistance to both lateral and longitudinal forces, enhancing braking consistency in challenging conditions. The 45° weave also improves heat dissipation, preventing localized overheating and maintaining braking efficiency under high temperatures. Its interlaced structure further enhances durability, resisting pad abrasion and slowing crack propagation, which extends the lifespan of the braking surface.

Combined with a precisely engineered friction texture, this system ensures reliable, fade-free braking ride after ride.

TUBELESS READY

Every Elitewheels wheelset is designed with tubeless compatibility in mind. Each rim comes pre-fitted with tubeless tape and incorporates our proprietary R-angle design, which simplifies tire installation. In addition, bead seat retention ridges make it possible to inflate tubeless tires using just a standard floor pump, eliminating the need for additional equipment and making setup fast and user-friendly.

Which cassettes require the 1.85mm spacer?+

1.85mm spacers are required for Shimano 9/10-speed cassettes fitted on Shimano HG freehubs. Spacers are also required when pairing most SRAM XD MTB cassettes with SRAM XDR freehubs.

Is there an internal nipple option?+

No. Currently, Marvel II series wheels do not have an internal nipple option.

Which brands’ freehubs are compatible with Marvel II wheelsets?+

Since the hubs used in Marvel II wheels are manufactured in Elitewheels’ factory, freehubs from other brands are incompatible. The hubs used in MARVEL II wheels have passed our 20,000km test. As long as you ride in normal conditions, the possibility of the freehub getting damaged is very low. If you ride in extreme conditions, we recommend you clean the freehub every 3000km.

Are ceramic bearings easily broken?+

As all our our hubs have high-precision manufacturing tolerances, bearing play is significantly reduced. Because of this, the likelihood of bearings being damaged is extremely low.

What does the rider weight limit include?+

The rider weight limit includes the total weight of the rider, bike, gear, and any other accessories. Please do not exceed this weight.

What tire pressures should I run?+

The best tire pressure for you depends on many factors: the rim width, type of bike and tires, rider weight, road conditions and weather conditions. Please see our user guide for more information.

How strong are your carbon rims? What happens if I break one?+

Every one of our carbon rims has been strictly tested before shipment. We are so confident in the quality of our rims that we offer a 3-year warranty on every one. We also offer a crash replacement policy. To learn more, please refer to our warranty page.

      Hi Camilo,

Thank you for switching over to our Marvel 50V II rim brake wheels! We’re happy you enjoy their lightweight design, sleek look and ultra-smooth ride.

      Happy cycling!

  2. Molazis (verified owner) –

Since the beginning of April when I received the wheelset, I have ridden about 1400 km. I am very happy with how it runs, how it spins and looks very good on my bike.
I installed the brake pads that the wheelset came with and I think they are a bit hard and squeak when braking. I would like to change the pads with some less hard ones. Otherwise I am very happy. I give it 5 stars.
