Alpine Loop Gran Fondo 2024

On Sunday, October 6, 2024, Harrisonburg, Virginia, will host the highly anticipated Alpine Loop Gran Fondo, recognized as one of America’s Top-10 Gran Fondos. This premier cycling event combines challenging rides, scenic beauty, and community spirit, drawing participants from across the nation for an unforgettable weekend.

The Alpine Loop Gran Fondo is a proud partner event of the Gran Fondo National Series for 2024, offering riders the opportunity to earn series points and qualify for the 2025 Gran Fondo National Championship. The event features several routes, including the Gran, Medio, and Piccolo, each designed to cater to various levels of experience and ambition.

Named for its stunning alpine-inspired landscapes reminiscent of Austrian, German, and Swiss terrain, the event’s routes start in Harrisonburg and weave through approximately 110 miles of mountainous terrain with 10,000 feet of climbing, including the rugged Fultz Gap. This challenging route is suited for experienced riders familiar with both paved and unpaved roads.

Cyclists of all abilities can choose from a range of courses, including the Shenandoah Mountain Century, Shenandoah Mountain Adventure, Mount Solon Metric Century, and Valley View Challenge, each offering a unique way to experience the picturesque surroundings of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, VA, and Pendleton County, WV.

With a vibrant downtown setting, the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo features a parade-style start on historic Main Street and offers a rich array of local attractions, including art galleries, boutique shops, and the culinary delights of Virginia’s first Culinary District. Additionally, twenty-three free entries will be available for U23 riders, promoting the inclusion of younger cyclists in this prestigious event.
