Blood Sweat and Gears

Blood Sweat and Gears 2024, set for June 22, is a distinguished cycling event known for its demanding 100-mile route that begins and ends in Valle Crucis, North Carolina. This challenging course encircles Boone and ventures through the outskirts of Watauga County, immersing riders in the heart of North Carolina’s High Country. The terrain varies significantly, featuring hills of various lengths and numerous curves, with a total elevation gain of 8,800 feet. This event not only tests the endurance of participants but also showcases the scenic landscapes of the region.
2024 marks the 24th year of Blood Sweat and Gears, aka “BSG”. Our charity cycling event has been raising money to support area non-profit organizations and to provide valuable resources for the underserved and unmet needs of the High-Country community since 1999. BSG showcases the mountain communities of Watauga and Ashe counties. The ride consists of two routes. A very challenging 95-mile route and a 45-mile route that is shorter in mileage but still big on the challenge. Both routes include epic area climbs, including the BSG signature climb, Snake Mountain.
