The Death Loop 2025

The Death Loop: A Thrilling Challenge of Endurance and Navigation

Scheduled for 23 February 2025, The Death Loop emerges as a formidable test of endurance and self-navigation within the cycling community. This unique self-guided ride, born from a spirit of adventure, pushes participants to their limits, fostering an atmosphere of camaraderie and adrenaline. Each year, riders return to conquer the loop, drawn by the exhilarating challenge it presents.

History: Since its inception, The Death Loop has carved out a reputation as a thrilling adventure for cyclists seeking to challenge themselves. Evolving from a simple concept into a sought-after event, it has become a rite of passage for many. Participants embrace the spirit of competition and the shared experience of overcoming the demanding course, making it a highlight in the cycling calendar.

Race Overview: In 2025, The Death Loop offers a grueling 61-mile self-guided ride that requires meticulous preparation and resilience. With a participant limit of just 35, the event ensures an intimate yet competitive atmosphere. Riders must maintain a minimum speed of 13 mph on paved and dirt roads and 8 mph on rugged trails, emphasizing the need for both fitness and navigation skills. To avoid disqualification, maintaining an average speed of 10 mph is essential, making every moment of the ride a test of endurance. Participants will receive RWGPS documents and a detailed checklist of must-have items via email prior to the event.

Route: The carefully curated route of The Death Loop presents cyclists with a diverse mix of terrains, including smooth paved roads, challenging dirt paths, and demanding singletrack sections. While not suitable for gravel bikes unless riders possess experience with rough trails and sandy conditions, the course showcases the stunning natural beauty of the region. A well-deserved stop at the St. John River Grill near the finish line offers participants a chance to refuel and recover, making the journey as rewarding as it is challenging.
