Since its inception, the Tour of New Zealand has established itself as a unique fixture in the cycling community, seamlessly blending athletic endeavor with charitable fundraising. Over seven tours, participants have collectively raised $2.2 million for various charities, including funding a $300,000 scanner for Neuroendocrine Cancer patients in New Zealand and supporting organizations like the NZ Spinal Trust and the Child Cancer Foundation. Race Overview
The 2025 Tour of New Zealand spans five days, offering cyclists a structured yet exhilarating experience. Participants have the option to “race” competitively or “ride” for the sheer joy of the journey, accommodating a wide range of cycling enthusiasts. The event attracts approximately 150 to 160 riders from around the globe, fostering a diverse and vibrant community united by a shared passion for cycling and philanthropy.
Route
The tour’s route showcases the South Island’s diverse and stunning landscapes, providing participants with an unforgettable journey through some of New Zealand’s most picturesque regions. The stages are as follows:
Stage 1 (April 7): Greymouth to Hokitika – 37 km
Stage 2 (April 8): Ross to Franz Josef – 107 km
Stage 3 (April 9): Fox Glacier to Haast – 98 km
Stage 4.1 (April 10): Haast to Makarora West – 62 km
Stage 4.2 (April 10): Makarora West to Hawea – 61 km
Stage 5 (April 11): Wanaka to Crown Range summit – 49 km
This carefully curated route offers a mix of coastal roads, mountain passes, and serene lake vistas, ensuring a challenging yet rewarding experience for all participants.
Participation and Fundraising
Participants can choose between two entry packages:
“All Benefits” Package: Priced at NZ$1,300, this comprehensive option includes race entry, all transport, accommodation, and daily baggage relocation.
“Tour Only” Package: At NZ$700, this option covers race entry, with participants responsible for their own transport, accommodation, and luggage transfer.
Both packages include lunch on Day 4 and access to the Celebration and Prizegiving Luncheon. Riders are encouraged to select a charity of their choice, rally support, and ride for a cause that resonates with them, continuing the tour’s tradition of impactful fundraising.
